DESCRIPTION:DATE: 17-19 July 2026\, Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday  \nLOCATION: Manassas National Battlefield\, VA    \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION: As part of the National Park Service’s annual anniversary program the USMCHC will once again tentatively be presenting exhibits\, walking tours\, and historic weapons demonstrations (depending on the park staff’s overall mission objectives) focusing on the Marine Battalion at the battle and their impact on today’s Marine Corps. With this being the 165th anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas\, there are tentative plans in the works for a major broad-based living-history program with units representing several of those present at the battle. NOTE: This will be a hybrid program using both living-history techniques and modern exhibits. It is manpower sensitive\, needing Marines and members in a living-history role as 1861 Marines and members in contemporary clothing to man the exhibits. With 2026 celebrating both the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in July 1776 and the “10 Crucial Days” of the Trenton and Princeton Campaign in December 1776 this year’s exhibit will tentatively be titled “General Washington’s Marines\, The Continental Marines in the Trenton and Princeton Campaign” and will look at the uniforms\, equipment and weapons of both the Continental Marines and Pennsylvania State Marines during the campaign. SUMMARY:1944\, America at War
DESCRIPTION:The USMCHC has again been asked to assist with a NPS program commemorating America’s involvement in World War Two and U.S. Armed Forces participation and expansion during the second year of the war. The overall program goal will be to interpret the events of 1944 and how they shaped General Eisenhower\, the United States\, and the course of World War II. The program will have strong thematic elements.  The Historical Company will look at the expansion of the Marines Corps into a multiple division Fleet Marine Force\, advancements in technology\, along with offensive amphibious operations in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during 1944. A strong emphasis will be placed on the June 1944 D-Day landing and Gen. Eisenhower’s role. The overall program will also look at direct ties with Gettysburg\, PA and the U.S. Forces. This will be a dominantly living-history based program with exhibits.

SUMMARY:The War of 1812 at Sea\, A USNA School House at Sea program
DESCRIPTION:DATE: 21-22 October 2023 (Date Tentative\, awaiting USNA conformation) \nLOCATION: Historic London Town\, Edgewater\, MD \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The USNA Museum and History Departments have once again ask by the USMCHC to be part of the instructor cadre (and coordinating staff) for a unique course\, the Schoolhouse at Sea program\, once again being offered to the midshipmen. In this credited course\, selected midshipmen will study the War of 1812 beyond the classroom aboard a replica War of 1812 ship\, and at historic sites. The Mids will embark on a two-day program and sail from Annapolis to Fort McHenry\, and then to London Town on the South River\, then returning to the Academy. Part of the journey will be aboard the replica tall ship Lynx where the Midshipmen will get hands-on instruction and experience and have an opportunity to work with each ship’s company in the sailing of a 19th century tall ship. The Midshipmen will camp at Historic London Town on that Saturday night. While there they will receive additional lectures and hands on classes and demonstrations focusing on the Marine Corps in the War of 1812. The USMCHC will provide these classes on the Marine Corps role in the War including talks on material history of the era and instruct hands-on classes which will allow the Midshipmen to learn the technology and tactics of the era where they will be allowed to fire (blanks) both 1812 era muskets and artillery. The classes will focus on Marine Corps tactical doctrine\, both at sea on land\, and its impact on the Corps’ small unit leaders. NOTE: This will be a hybrid program utilizing both contemporary classes and hands on training of historic weapons. It will require skilled lead instructors along with demonstrators and support staff. \nAn application form will not be sent out for this program. SUMMARY:A Timeline History of the Military at Fort Washington
DESCRIPTION:DATE: 30 September 2023\, Saturday (Marine participation tentative)      \nLOCATION: Fort Washington National Historical Park\, Fort Washington\, MD   \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Fort Washington NPS staff is planning an American military timeline that covers the history of the Fort from 1812 to 1946. The Park’s stated purpose for the program is: To help the park visitor understand the evolution of American weapons and warfare and to show how early military customs and traditions affect our lives today. The program will consist of static exhibits and camps\, drill and firing demonstrations\, and scheduled talks/presentations on the history of Fort Washington through time. The eras the park would like represented are the War of 1812\, Mexican War\, Civil War (Marines in January 1861\, Heavy Artillery\, and Infantry)\, Span-Am War (Coast Artillery)\, WW1\, and WW2. We are evaluating the feasibility of USMCHC support for this program and the scope of our participation. Although the Historical Company has the capability to cover all eras requested\, the only direct involvement of Marines with the site was the garrisoning of the Fort by US Marines in January 1861. Because of the workload both proceeding and following this program our participation may be limited to covering the Civil War era. At present the program is scheduled for one day (Saturday from 1000 till 1630). This year the program will be presented around the anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.  This will be a hybrid program primarily utilizing contemporary exhibits that will look at the Marines and Navy (including Naval/Marine Aviation) during the Korean War. This will be augmented by a limited living-history element. Next year this program will tentatively move to December and be a dominantly living-history based program looking at the Marines  at Chosin over Christmas 1950. DESCRIPTION:PROGRAM: “The War of 1812 at Sea” A USNA School House at Sea program \nDATE: 22-23 October 2022 (Date Tentative\, awaiting USNA conformation) \nLOCATION: Historic London Town\, Edgewater\, MD \nPROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The USNA Museum and History Departments have once again ask by the USMCHC to be part of the instructor cadre (and coordinating staff) for a unique course\, the Schoolhouse at Sea program\, once again being offered to the midshipmen. In this credited course\, selected midshipmen will study the War of 1812 beyond the classroom aboard a replica War of 1812 ship\, and at historic sites. The Mids will embark on a two-day program and sail from Annapolis to Fort McHenry\, and then to London Town on the South River\, then returning to the Academy. Part of the journey will be aboard the replica tall ship Lynx where the Midshipmen will get hands-on instruction and experience and have an opportunity to work with each ship’s company in the sailing of a 19th century tall ship. The Midshipmen will camp at Historic London Town on that Saturday night. While there they will receive additional lectures and hands on classes and demonstrations focusing on the Marine Corps in the War of 1812. The USMCHC will provide these classes on the Marine Corps role in the War including talks on material history of the era and instruct hands-on classes which will allow the Midshipmen to learn the technology and tactics of the era where they will be allowed to fire (blanks) both 1812 era muskets and artillery. The classes will focus on Marine Corps tactical doctrine\, both at sea on land\, and its impact on the Corps’ small unit leaders. An application form will not be sent out for this program.
