May 28, 2022

PROGRAM: “Defend and Protect: Arming America’s Soldiers.” Living History and Lecture program.

DATE: 28 May 2022 (Program Tentative, awaiting NPS conformation)

LOCATION: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, WV

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Marine Corps Historical Company has been asked to support a program developed by Mark Dubin of the Maryland State Parks Independent Blues for Harpers Ferry National Park. Working as partners with the National Park Service staff, the program will be a living-history based timeline that will look at the Harpers Ferry arsenals and the arms they produced from the founding of the Federal Arsenal in 1799 to its destruction in 1861. A series of stations will highlight the various conflicts in which the arsenal’s weapons were used. These will potentially include the Quasi-war with France in the late 1790s, The War of 1812, The Seminole Wars, the War with Mexico, and the John Brown raid on Harpers Ferry. Tentatively each station will include a soldier (Provided by the Blues), a Marine (provided by the HC), and an arsenal worker to discuss the weapons technology developments during each era (provided by an NPS staffer). At present the program is scheduled to be one day only. An application will be sent out via e-mail for this program. Once received please complete and return the application form ASAP if you plan to assist. For further information contact GySgt Williams, di************@ao*.com.
