1944, America at War

September 20 - September 22

The USMCHC has again been asked to assist with a NPS program commemorating America’s involvement in World War Two and U.S. Armed Forces participation and expansion during the second year of the war. The overall program goal will be to interpret the events of 1944 and how they shaped General Eisenhower, the United States, and the course of World War II. The program will have strong thematic elements.  The Historical Company will look at the expansion of the Marines Corps into a multiple division Fleet Marine Force, advancements in technology, along with offensive amphibious operations in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters during 1944. A strong emphasis will be placed on the June 1944 D-Day landing and Gen. Eisenhower’s role. The overall program will also look at direct ties with Gettysburg, PA and the U.S. Forces. This will be a dominantly living-history based program with exhibits.
