Training Support

Interpretive Skills and Program Development Training

We regularly provide courses on Historical Programming Presentation Skills and Techniques, development, and related history. We are willing to offer training customized to each requesting agency based on their needs. Some of the specific subjects offered include:

  • Historical Interpretation of [Marine] History: The mission.
  • Historical interpretive techniques, and presentation skills
  • Program development
  • Presentation considerations, applications, and tricks of the trade.
  • Overview: A pocket history of the Marines from 1775 to today.
  • Marine symbols of tradition, the blending of myth and fact.
  • “Other duties”: Expansion of the Marine mission and support duties through history: Artillery, Communications, Aviation, Engineers, etc.
  • Marine Corps Materiel History: a “users” guide.
  • Evolution of the Marine uniform
  • Technological evolution of Marine small arms, and their impact on the Marine and his tactics.
  • “Soldier skills and field craft”: An introduction to Marine basic military skills through the ages.
  • “Hands on Training”: Practical application of basic military skills for primary historical eras.

The above is a basic recommendation and can easily be refined and further tailored to meet your specific needs.

PMEs and Classes on Marine Corps History and Technology

In addition to “how to” training the USMCHC regularly provides PMEs and classes on Marine Corps history and technology to Marine Corps Commands and Agencies throughout the country. Each class is custom tailored to the desires of the requesting command.

Agency Support

The USMCHC also provides support to other agencies assisting them with the development and presentation of their own programs. This includes Script writing, exhibit design, historic uniforms and equipment, training, and on-site technical support.

Some of the agencies we have supported include Marine Barracks “8th & I,” Washington for the 200th anniversary of the Home of the Commandants; The Commandant of the Marine Corps Protocol Office annually supporting the CMC’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball; MCB Quantico annually supporting their Base Marine Corps Birthday program; and regularly supporting functions for the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.
